This thesis was carried out in collaboration with a kindergarten in Espoo. The purpose of this thesis was to develop visual expression to support child’s individual self-image and worldview in the kindergarten. The aim was to create a guide book to faclitate the educators’ work in supporting child’s individual self-image and worldview through visual expression. The thesis was implemented as a case study approach. The theoretical framework includes: self-image, worldview, visual expression and pedagogical work of the educator. These issues were examined in context to the National core curriculum for early childhood education and care. The theoretical framework examines individual self-image and worldview and how these concepts are linked to visual expression, carrying out the visual expression and educators pedagogical work. As a result of this thesis a guide book was created. The content of the guide book was based on the theory and the results of the study´s material. The content of the guide book followed the structure of the thesis. The guide book gives practical examples on how to implement child’s individual self-image and worldview by using visual expression. The aims of this thesis were achieved. The guide book offered transferable skills to the teachers and child care workers. Educators got readiness on how to implement visual expression supporting child’s individual self-image and worldview and strengthened educators pedagogical know-how in this matter.
